OUR WINE
ZioBAFFA - PREMIUM ITALIAN WINE IMPORTS
We are proud to present our series of organic Italian wines.
During surf-inspired adventures in Italy with surfer-artist-environmentalist Chris Del Moro, Filmmaker Jason Baffa was fortunate enough to meet his good friend, surfer, winemaker & art-patron, Piergiorgio Castellani.
The Castellani family has been passionately making Tuscan Wines for five generations (over one-hundred years). Piergiorgio attributes the fantastic flavor of Tuscan wines to the rich sea-floor minerality of the Italian soil, a minerality established millions of years ago when the region was submerged deep beneath the Mediterranean. As surfers, the group finds this a fun connection between winemaking and the sea.
In collaboration with the Castellani Family, we introduce Estate Harvested, organically grown wines from Italy under the label, ZIOBAFFA. These wines are made with Tuscan expertise in concert with a modern eco-friendly ethos.
The ZIOBAFFA wines are crafted with a bio-dynamic and sustainable focus through the masterful hands of Piergiorgio Castellani. The grapes are organically produced, which we think makes the wine better for the environment and easier on your system. In the coming months, we hope to build the ZIOBAFFA wine portfolio and we are beginning with an exciting endeavor...
In conjunction with the release of the film, "Bella Vita," Piergiorgio, Chris and Jason would like to share two new wines from ZIOBAFFA. We call them
"The Filmmaker's Edition."
Inspired by their travels surfing Italy, the label design is the original, limited edition artwork of Chris Del Moro and highlights a hand-drawn boot with tallowed Mediterranean waves. It is printed on FSC certified paper and affixed with a bio-friendly glue, minimizing the toxicity of the label making process.
With a focus on sustainable, zero-waste production and environmentally friendly bottling, including recycled materials and the revolutionary Helix® re-useable cork closure, these wines are a modern take on an old-world-tradition.
Wine is a way of life in Italy. Enjoyed during lunch and dinner, it is served with food as part of the dining experience. It is shared amongst family and friends, celebrating the simple beauty of community. Open a bottle of ZIOBAFFA with close family and friends and enjoy "la belleza d' Italia."

QUALITY & SUSTAINABILITY
WHY ORGANIC?
Organic wine production has many benefits both for the consumer and the environment. Health benefits show, that on average, organic wine contains higher levels of vitamin C, essential minerals and cancer fighting antioxidants.
Organic farming eliminates over 400 pesticide chemicals routinely used in non-organic farming, benefiting the end consumer and the surrounding farmland and wildlife.
The use of less chemical spray lowers pollution and lessens carbon dioxide emission, promoting a healthier eco-system which not only benefits the surrounding wildlife but also minimizes trace toxins that remain in the food.

SUSTAINABILITY
Castellani and ZIOBAFFA have made conscious efforts to infuse our products with an ethos of quality & sustainability.
100% of energy used in manufacturing is from renewable resources and NDV certified with a "zero waste" program, recycling all possible waste and purifying polluted water.
Our ZIOBAFFA bottles utilize recycled glass in their creation.
100% of the paper we use for our label is FSC (The Forest Stewardship Council) certified and is produced from raw material obtained through sustainable farming practices. The labels are printed with non-toxic ink and affixed using bio-friendly, non-toxic glue.
The revolutionary new HELIX™ cork closure on our wine embraces technology to create a bio-friendly re-usable seal. We consider this seal more elegant and effective than aluminum screw caps. Cork production preserves bio-diversity and is generally regarded as a highly sustainable crop due to the fact that the entire cork tree is not harvested; merely its bark. The tree continues to live and grow.
The sustainability of production and the easy recycling of cork products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.
We are proud of these incentives. In the future, ZIOBAFFA & the Castellani family will strive to pursue new and better ways to produce and package our products.

FILMMAKER'S EDITION - PINOT GRIGIO

During our trips to Italy, we fell in love with this fantastic, organically grown Pinot Grigio wine.
Our travels found us surrounded by the romantic atmosphere of “osterie” and wine bars on every side road and Italian village we visited. In these quaint gathering spots, we learned that it is tradition to drink a delicate white wine called, Pinot Grigio. Blessed with a floral and fresh bouquet, it is certainly the most famous of the Italian white wines.
Light, crisp and refreshing, it is the perfect compliment to all occasions and goes particularly well with seafood and garden infused dishes like summer salads and vegetables.
One sip and I’m reminded of our road-trips through the sun drenched hills of Tuscany and along the emerald blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. We hope it transports you there as well.
We are so happy we can now share it with you.

FILMMAKER'S EDITION - TOSCANA RED

The 2012 Toscana Red was harvested while shooting Baffa's newest film, "Bella Vita," and scores an 88 from Wine Spectator.
In August of 2012, Baffa left California for Italy to document his friend, surfer-artist-environmentalist, Chris Del Moro on a quest to re-connect with their mutual Italian roots and prove to all the existence of world-class-surfing waves in the Mediterranean Sea. What they discovered was a beautiful community of people, celebrating old-world-tradition while simultaneously cultivating a new Italian surfing sub-culture.
This organically grown premium red wine is the product of Estate Harvested Sangiovese & Syrah grapes from the Poggio Al Casone Vineyard, our home during production. Our cameras captured the Estate's Fall wine-harvest, a gathering of familial spirit under the warm Tuscan sun. In the film, the scene documents Chris' return to Italy and a magical day where he re-connects with his family and friends from the Italian surfing community.
It is a dream come true to have the actual fruit-of-our-labor, the wine made from the grapes picked during filming, available for sale as an organic Toscana, Estate Harvested red wine. We are so happy we can now share the movie and the wine with you.
Enjoy it the way we enjoyed making our film "Bella Vita", with good food, family, friends and if you can, a few nice waves!
